The rules and application for the scholarship
 

I.With respect to each scholarship application, please go to the relevant department to submit the application materials first; these materials will be delivered to the extracurricular activities group of the student affairs office after being preliminarily examined by each department. Afterwards, a committee meeting will be held to complete the review resolution, and then we will sign an announcement to make notification.

II.All the evidential materials and achievements for review should be from the most recent semester; material from other semesters will not be considered for review. 

III.Everyone should obey the principle of applying for only one scholarship item; all students awarded with a scholarship shall be submitted to the scholarship committee to review if there are any duplicate candidates.

Ⅳ.Awards 
     At present, there are a total of eight kinds of scholarships on campus, which are described as follows:

Standard Operating Procedures Governing Scholarship for Foreign Students 

 

Approved as per the 389th Administrative Meeting, NKUHT, Academic Year 2018, as of January 4th, 2018

I.   The Standard Operating Procedures Governing Scholarship for Foreign Students, National             Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (hereinafter as the “SFS SOP”) are set forth           hereunder to facilitate internationalization and attract talented foreign students.

II.   Foreign students are eligible to apply when meeting the following criteria:

        (1) The scholarship holders will be foreign students enrolled in NKUHT, studying to                           attain a degree, or those being recommended by the International Affairs Office                         demonstrating academic excellence or outstanding achievements with evident track                     records.

        (2) Students originating from Hong Kong, Macao, Overseas Chinese students, students                     originating from the People’s Republic China and exchange students are not eligible.

        (3) Students who have received any scholarship from any one of the following agencies,                   including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other Taiwanese                           government agencies or other internal or external sources (except being awarded the                   internal academic excellence scholarship) are not eligible.

        (4) An applicant shall provide a constructive study plan, existing transcript, autobiography                 and any other evidence demonstrating relevant achievements.

III.   Types of Scholarships for all educational levels:

        (1) Undergraduate

               1. A waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees.

               2. A waiver of half of tuition and miscellaneous fees.

               3. A waiver of dormitory fees.

        (2) Master’s 

               1. A waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees as well as dormitory fees.

               2. A waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees.

               3. A waiver of tuition fees.

        (3) Ph.D.

               1. A waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees as well as dormitory fees, with a monthly                     stipend of NT$8,000 (EIGHT THOUSAND NEW TAIWAN DOLLARS).

               2. A waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees as well as dormitory fees.

               3. A waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees.

IV.   Term and Announcement of Scholarship Holders:

        (1) The scholarship applications are accepted once an academic year. The term for each                   undergraduate scholarship holder is four years, Master’s two years and Ph.D. three                     years.

        (2) Annual time frame for scholarship disbursement: From the 1st of September to the 31st of              August.

        (3) Successful scholarship holders will be announced together with the admission name list.

V.   Scholarship Disbursement, Termination and Cancellation:

        (1) The scholarship may only be disbursed when the holder has completed the enrollment                   process.

        (2) In the case of Leave of Absence or Withdrawal, the scholarship disbursement will be                  cancelled on the following month in that semester upon the effect of Leave of Absence or              Withdrawal (if the scholarship is disbursed monthly) or the following semester.

        (3) Where it is confirmed that the scholarship holder fails to achieve the grade of eighty                    (80)for the conduct grade as well as an average grade of eighty (80) for all subjects in                the semester where the scholarship is in effect, the scholarship will be terminated and                  disbursement cancelled on the following semester.

        (4) Where it is confirmed with evidence that a scholarship holder is no longer fit to receive                the scholarship, the scholarship will be terminated and disbursement cancelled, upon the              approval of the Scholarship for Foreign Students Committee.

VI.   Application Form and Schedule: An applicant shall download the Scholarship form from the          web page and prepare the following documents for submission when applying for NKUHT          admission (online application only):

        (1) Application form.

        (2) Transcript of the highest academic qualification.

        (3) Autobiography and other relevant evidence in favor of your application.

VII.   Scholarship Rules from the Second Year onward:

       A scholarship holder, who is enrolled for the new semester and intends to continue to receive         the scholarship, shall submit the transcript of the previous academic year within one week             after the commencement of that semester to the International Affairs Office for renewal; the             renewal eligibilities for each academic system are as follows:

        (1) A Ph.D. scholarship holder shall achieve an average grade and the conduct grade,                    each of eighty (80) and above, for the semester and attain the supervisor’s consideration              and approval; where said student is without a supervisor, the approval shall be granted                by the Institute Director; if there is no coursework, the supervisor or Institute Director may                grant the approval accordingly.

        (2) A Master’s scholarship holder shall achieve an average grade and conduct grade, each              of eighty (80) and above, for the semester and attain the supervisor’s consideration and                approval; where said student is without a supervisor, the approval shall be granted by                  the Institute Director.

        (3) An undergraduate scholarship holder shall achieve an average grade and conduct                    grade, each of eighty (80) and above, for the semester and the student’s rank shall be in              the top 50% of class ranking; in addition, the Department Director shall also grant                        consideration and approval.

        (4) Where the above criteria are not met, the scholarship will be terminated; should the                    future academic performance meet the above criteria, the scholarship may be reapplied.

VIII.   A scholarship holder, during the effect of the scholarship, may be arranged to provide                  voluntary services on campus by the International Affairs Office, e.g. campus experience              sharing as a foreign student, assistance to international and cultural activities, student elder-            junior advisory services among foreign students, etc.

IX.    A Ph.D. applicant, subject to Section III(3)1. hereof, shall demonstrate a teaching experience          in the country of origin for more than two (2) years and will provide teaching assistance                services on campus after securing the scholarship.

X.    Review Method: In order to stipulate and review the scholarship payment standards, places           and relevant matters, the Scholarship for Foreign Students Committee is formed, comprising           of committee members, i.e. the Vice President, the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Dean of             Student Affairs, the Dean of International Affairs Office and the Deans of all the colleges;               moreover, the Vice president will act as the convener and the Dean of International Affairs             Office as the Executive Secretary. 

XI.    The funding required for the SFS SOP hereof is sponsored by the subsidies from the Ministry           of Education.

XII.   These regulations were officially approved at the NKUHT’s Administrative Meeting and are           made public by the President, any amendments will undergo the same process.
